Bank Mode is an Avast Secure Browser feature that provides a virtual desktop that acts as a clean and secure computer on your real PC. The Virtual Desktop in Bank Mode protects you from malicious scripts being inserted, keystrokes being logged and screen shots being attempted from third-party applications. We recommend that you use the bank mode whenever you want to access the bank’s website or make an online payment.
Avast Bank mode may not work due to an outdated version of Avast Secure Browser or Avast Antivirus. In addition, a damaged installation of Secure Browser or Windows may result in the specified error.
The problem occurs when a user tries to start the bank mode but doesn’t do it (in some cases the computer hangs up). When the bank mode is started, a gray / white / black window (without an input option) is displayed and does not respond, or an empty screen is displayed without a browser option.

Start scanning your PC with Avast Antivirus.

- Start a secure browser and click the Avast icon (in the upper right corner of the window).
- Now click Scan my computer in the Security and Privacy Center (under Avast Antivirus).
- Now make sure that the bank mode works correctly. If so, stop scanning your PC.
- If the problem persists, start Avast Antivirus and click “Start Smart Scan”.
- Now make sure that the bank mode is working correctly. If so, stop scanning your PC.
- If the problem is not solved, try running Avast Cleanup Premium and click Scan Now.
- Now run the bank mode and see if it works correctly.
Remove the Avast Secure Browser.
Perform the following steps to uninstall Avast Secure Browser in Windows.
Delete via Windows Start menu
- Right-click the “Start” button in Windows and select “Applications and Functions” from the menu that appears.
- Make sure that “Applications and Functions” is selected in the left pane, then click Avast Secure Browser and select “Delete”.
- When you are prompted for permission in the User Account Control dialog box, click Yes.
- Make sure the Clear viewing data checkbox is also checked to clear your profile information, such as bookmarks and history, then click Delete to continue.
- Wait for the uninstaller to remove Avast Secure Browser from your computer.
- Once the uninstallation is complete, click OK to complete the uninstallation request.
- Avast Secure Browser will be uninstalled from your PC.
