If you do not specify the correct value in the “run in” field when configuring a scheduled task using the Task Scheduler on any version of the Windows operating system, you will receive a return error code 8007010B (0x8007010B) when you try to perform the work. This may be due to a typing error, but it is most likely due to quotation marks around the path of the folder. In the “Start in” field, quotation marks are NOT valid characters, although they are in the “Program/Script” parameter. The following steps explain the causes of this problem and how to solve it.
The error message is similar to the following: “The name of the directory is not valid. (0x8007010B)”.
Manually reset the Windows Update components.
To do this, follow the manual steps to reset the Windows Update component below:
There are several manual reset steps, but before you can start, you must create the system restore point to avoid problems if something goes wrong.
Step 1: Open the command prompt as an administrator.
Step 2: Stop BITS, WUAUSERV, APPIDSVC and CRYPTSVC services. Execute the following command one after the other. Copy and paste each line into the command prompt and press Enter.
network stop bits
net stop wuauserv
net stop appidsvc
net stop cryptsvc
Step 3: Delete the file qmgr*.dat. Enter the following command in the command prompt and press Enter.
Del “%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat”
Step 4: Rename the SoftwareDistribution and catroot2 folder. Type the following command one at a time and press Enter.
Ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak
Ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
Temporarily disable the antivirus software on your computer.

- Click on the Settings tab, then click Real-time Protection.
- Clear the Enable real-time protection (recommended) check box.
- Save your changes.
Run System File Checker
Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt, then click Run as Administrator… in the drop-down menu. Enter cd\ and press ENTER. Enter “sfc /scannow” without quotation marks and press the ENTER key. When the output type is finished, press the ENTER button and restart the computer.
When the process is complete, you can receive one of the following messages:
