Repair Volsnap.sys Failed BSOD Error

If you see the BSOD volsnap.sys error on your Windows computer and you are stuck in a blue screen. Don’t worry about that. This is a common mistake in Blue Screen and you can fix it.

Volsnap.sys is connected to the Volume Shadow Copy service. This blue screen error volsnap.sys occurs because the system files are corrupted or the driver is corrupted.

How can you fix the volsnap.sys error?

Check that there are no errors in the memory.

To solve problems with your RAM, follow these steps.

Check your computer’s memory. First press the WINKEY + R key combination to launch the Run utility. Then type mdsched.exe, then type Enter. It starts the Windows memory diagnostic tool and gives two options.

Depending on the option you choose, the computer restarts and searches for memory problems. If you have problems, they will be fixed automatically, otherwise if no problems are detected, this is probably not the cause of the problem.

Do you have an older version of volsnap.sys?

If you used Windows Insiders Builds/Flights, you may have a C:\Windows.old folder. Don’t forget to pay attention to the letters on your drive and rename the wrong Volsnap and copy the old one from another place. In this example, I get it from C:\Windows.old.

ren C:\windows\system32\drivers\volsnap.sys C:\windows\system32\drivers\volsnap.sys.bak
copy C:\windows.old\windows\system32\drivers\volsnap.sys C:\windows\system32\drivers\volsnap.sys

Once you have solved your boot problem, go to Windows Update and start the update around 17025.

Run Chkdsk

chkdsk win10

Check the hard disk by following these steps:

Type cmd in the search bar.
Right-click on the command prompt and run it as an administrator.
Type chkdsk x : /r, the /r command corrects errors found on the hard disk.

Startup Repair

Startup Repair is a Windows recovery tool that can solve some problems, such as missing or damaged system files that could prevent Windows from starting. Startup help can be found in the System Restore Options menu on the Windows Vista installation disc. If your computer has preinstalled recovery options, it can also be stored on your computer’s hard disk. If your computer does not include boot repair, your computer manufacturer may have customized or replaced the tool. Check the information provided with your computer or visit the manufacturer’s website.
