To start directly in safe mode on Windows 10/8/7

Safe mode under Windows, boot the computer with a limited number of drivers and system files. Startup programs, add-ons, etc. do not run in safe mode and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are started. This mode is very useful for solving Windows problems.

If you want to reboot and boot directly into safe mode, you must observe the computer reboot, observe the different BIOS messages, select the operating system with which you want to boot, then press F8 now to activate the extended boot menu. In Windows 10/8, this is of course slightly different. You must first activate the F8 key if you want to use it to start in safe mode.

Restart in safe mode

However, you want to start directly in safe mode. To do this, open the Run field, enter and press Enter to open the system configuration program.

Select the Boot tab and enable Safe Mode under Boot Options. The Minimum option is selected automatically. If you need other safe mode options such as networking, etc.on, you can select them.

Click Apply > OK. You are now invited to do so. Click the Restart button and the computer will restart the computer directly in safe mode. So before clicking the Restart button, make sure you have saved all your work.

If you need to restart frequently in safe mode, you can create the shortcut. Right-click your desktop and select New > Shortcut. In the Location field, copy the following path :

C:WindowsSystem32msconfig.exe -2

Click Next and name the shortcut, for example, as reboot options.


Alternatively, you can download and use a simple.exe utility called BootSafe.

However, if you want to exit safe mode and return to normal mode, you must use this program again to get a restart in normal mode.

See this message if your PC crashes and cannot exit the mode without failure.
