Nowadays, most of us simply prefer to close the covers of our Windows laptops when our work is done. Closing the lid can cause your windows to stop, sleep or hibernate. You can control the behavior and decide what you want to do once you close the lid.

Most of us are aware that there are 3 main ways to turn off your new Windows 8.1 PC.

  1. You can put the PC into standby mode
  2. You can put the PC into standby mode
  3. You can turn it off completely

The Sleep options consume little power so that your PC wakes up where you stopped faster and in no time. The probability of losing your job due to battery discharge is reduced to zero in sleep mode because the operating system automatically records all your work before turning off your PC when the battery is low. This mode is often used when a person is away from the office for only a certain period of time. For a coffee break or a refreshment.

The Hibernate option uses even less power than Sleep Mode and lands where you last left it. However, this option should be used if you know you will not be using your laptop for an extended period of time.

As already mentioned, it is possible to slide your notebook into one of the three performance states described above by simply closing the cover of your device. In this article, we will learn how to turn off Windows 8.1, put it in standby by closing the lid of your laptop.
