New SkyDrive features: High resolution photos, GIF support, custom sharing

For all photo enthusiasts who love to store images on the Internet, Microsoft has given you a reason to smile by announcing a variety of new features for sharing photos and files with SkyDrive.com. As part of its ongoing efforts to become one of the most efficient cloud storage service providers, Microsoft has added new features to SkyDrive with support for more file types, new editing features, more sharing options for everyone and more control over what you’ve shared.

Let’s look at the new features of SkyDrive.

SkyDrive.com now supports higher resolution photos and animated GIF

With the new update, higher DPI displays like ClearType Full HD and Retina are supported. SkyDrive.com can measure the DPI scale of your device, and if the screen supports it, photos and thumbnails are displayed in higher resolution. SkyDrive.com now also supports animated GIFs, which was not possible before.

Custom Share with Controller

You can share two or one hundred photos from your camera roll. You can share a file in one folder with another file in another folder. And you can share different things with different people.

SkyDrive introduced The new shared view to keep the overview. This new shared view shows you everything you have shared and what has been shared with you. Your own business will be at the top of the lost, sorted by what you last shared. Next comes a list of people who shared something with you, sorted by people who shared something for the last time.

SkyDrive has also provided an extension of editing capacity. If you enable the Recipients can edit option, you can allow recipients to edit documents when any SkyDrive file is shared with them via email.

A special mention for developers

From the developer’s point of view, SkyDrive now allows editing different types of text files in the browser by adding native support for viewing and editing many different types of text files. Code files contain JavaScript, CSS, HTML, etc. that can be shared and edited by others.

Last week, Microsoft announced in SkyDrive for Windows 8.1 new placeholder files that save bandwidth and offline file access options. And now with new web features in SkyDrive.com, Microsoft is becoming a major competitor against Dropbox, Google Drive, SugarSync and other cloud storage providers.
