Synchronize SkyDrive with external memory on Windows 8, Synchronize with briefcase

RECOMMENDED: Click here to fix Windows errors and optimize system performance

You can use Windows Briefcase to synchronize folders and files between different storage media. With the briefcase, you can easily synchronize an external storage device such as a USB stick with SkyDrive. This can be useful if you want to access your offline copies of documents from another computer and synchronize your changes later. Because Microsoft has hidden the briefcase of the latest versions of Windows, you can make it visible again with the registry edition.

Synchronize SkyDrive with external memory under Windows 8

April 2021 Update:

We now recommend using this tool for your error. Additionally, this tool fixes common computer errors, protects you against file loss, malware, hardware failures and optimizes your PC for maximum performance. You can fix your PC problems quickly and prevent others from happening with this software:

  • Step 1 : Download PC Repair & Optimizer Tool (Windows 10, 8, 7, XP, Vista – Microsoft Gold Certified).
  • Step 2 : Click “Start Scan” to find Windows registry issues that could be causing PC problems.
  • Step 3 : Click “Repair All” to fix all issues.

To synchronize the SkyDrive directory with Briefcase, you must download the official SkyDrive for Windows application from the SkyDrive website.

Once the installation of the SkyDrive application is complete, you must activate the briefcase in Windows 8 by simply modifying the registry. You should create a restore point now so you can access it later in case of problems.

Paste it into Notepad and save it as Briefcase.reg :

Windows Registry Editor Version 5. 00
IconPath=hex(2) : ., .00.33.00, 32.00.5c.00.73, . 00
ItemName=hex(2) : 40,00,25,00,00,00,00,53,00,00,00,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,00,00,65,00,6d,00,52,00,6f,00,00,6f,00,
6f,00,74,00,00,00,25,00, 00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,00,00,73,00,00,00,74,00,00,00,65,00,00,6d,00,00,33,00,32,00,00,5c,
00,73,00,00,68,00,65, 00. 6c.00 .00.6c.,
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesShellNewConfig Briefcase]

After saving the file, run it and click Yes to continue. If you wish, you can download this finished recording file, which we downloaded for use in our previous post.

Then decide where you want to keep a synchronized copy of SkyDrive and call up the context menu by right-clicking on the desktop. Move the mouse over New -> Briefcase and give it a name. Then drag your SkyDrive directory (or its subdirectories) into the briefcase to synchronize your files and folders.

Since the briefcase is not automatically updated each time you need to update the SkyDrive copy, you must right-click on the briefcase and select Update All to synchronize the copy. You can then check the proposed changes and agree to update them!

I hope it makes things easier!
