System recovery failed
There are two different methods to solve this problem and both are mainly for Windows 10, but you can also use the same technique under Windows 8.1/8, with minor differences.
As indicated in the error message, the problem is probably due to the WindowsApps folder , which contains all application installation data and files. A post on Answers says it is possible to fix the problem if you can rename the WindowsApps folder. But the problem is that you can’t change it like other normal folders or files, because it contains all the data from the installed applications. Therefore, you can use the following two solutions to rename the Windows Apps folder so you can troubleshoot the system recovery operation that failed in Windows 10 .
1] Renaming the folder to Safe Mode
Safe Mode is a very good solution for many people when something goes wrong. Start your Windows 10 computer in safe mode. To do this, open the preferences window (Win + I) under Windows 10 by going to
Open the preferences window (Win+I) under Windows 10, go to Update & Security > Recovery. Under option Advanced start you will see a button Restart now .

Press this button and start up to Advanced start options.

To access the screen above, press Troubleshooting > Advanced > Startup Settings > Restart > Restart, and then press 4 to restart your Windows 10 computer in safe mode.
When you switch to safe mode, open the command prompt with administrator rights and type the following commands in order:
cd C:Program files takeown /f WindowsApps /r /d Y WindowsApps icons /d Y WindowsApps icons /Grant %USERDOMAIN%USERNAME% :(F)/t WindowsApps -h WindowsApps Rename WindowsApps WindowsApps WindowsApps.old
Now reboot your PC and check whether system recovery is working or not.

2] From WinRE (Windows recovery environment)
You can run the command prompt in the Windows recovery environment and see if it helps. To do this, go to Settings > Update & Security > Recovery. Click the button Restart now under Advanced Start.
When you restart, the Advanced Start Options screen appears. You must now go to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options to proceed to the next screen.
Click Next. You may be asked to enter your administrator password. Now execute the following commands:
cd C : Rename WindowsApps -h WindowsAppsOld Attribute
Restart your computer and check whether system recovery is working or not.
