Microsoft has removed the’Consider Network Location’ feature for Windows 10 printers and changed its behavior. Windows 10 now sets the last selected printer as the default printer. This can be irritating sometimes. If you are looking for a way to prevent Windows 10 from changing your default printer, you can use the Windows 10 Settings application or change the Windows registry.

Open in WinX Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanner menu.

Scroll down a bit until you see a setting Let Windows manage my default printer .

When this setting is enabled, the default printer is the last printer used.

Turn the switch to position Off.

Now set your default printer. You will see the complete list of printers just above this setting.

Select the printer and click the button Set as default printer .

Windows 10 will not change it, even if you use another printer.

Use the registry to set the default printer

If for some reason this does not help, edit your registry and check.

Execute regedit and navigate to the next button :

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionWindows

Change the value of LegacyDefaultPrinterMode from 0 to 1.

After that, reset your default printer.
