If you receive an error message when trying to activate Windows 10 that Windows 10 could not be activated, this message may help you. Maybe you upgraded to Windows 10, or you installed Windows 10 cleanly, or maybe even your Windows 10 product key blocks a clean installation after the upgrade.
Windows 10 product key does not work
The way to get there is to switch from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. If you clean Windows 10 directly and use your previous key, it will not work.

Error 0xC004F061 – You updated Windows 10 but did not install a previous version or the correct edition of Windows
If you see the error 0xC004F061 when you try to activate Windows 10:
You are using a product key to upgrade to Windows 10, but an earlier version of Windows has not been installed on your PC. To upgrade, you must already have Windows 8 or Windows 7 installed on your PC.
If you have formatted or replaced your hard disk, you cannot use a product key to upgrade to Windows 10. You must install your previous version of Windows and reinstall Windows 10.
Error 0xC004C008 – A copy of Windows may be installed on multiple PCs
If you have installed a copy of Windows on more than one PC, activation may not work because the product key has already been used on a different PC or is used on more PCs than Microsoft’s license terms allow.
If your product key is used on more PCs than the terms of the Microsoft software license allow, you must purchase a new product key or a copy of Windows for each of your PCs to activate it.
Another version of Windows or the product key may have been used in a repair
If you took your PC to a repair shop or to someone who builds and repairs PCs, another version of Windows may have been installed to perform a repair. If another product key was used for your PC during the repair, it may be blocked if it is used on more PCs than the terms of the Microsoft software license permit.
If Windows was activated before your PC was repaired or rebuilt, entering the product key that came with your PC or the original version of Windows can solve the following problems.
