Unable to update the Windows Experience Index in Windows 7/8

Windows Experience Index or WEI is a feature included in Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows Vista that evaluates the performance of critical hardware components such as the processor, drive and graphics card. It helps the PC to obtain a value between 1.0 and 7.9. The score helps you find a floor model that meets your needs.

Normally, a PC with a score of 2 is sufficient for basic computer tasks such as surfing the Internet. Graphics intensive software often requires a 3 or more. WEI plays an important role in this regard. If you cannot update WEI, you can try the following.

Right-clicking on your computer and clicking Properties takes you to a page that displays, among other things, your WEI machine.

Clicking on the Windows experience index takes you to the page that displays detailed results for each component.

You may encounter an error or you may not be able to update your WEI score. Or perhaps a number is shown, but next to it is mentioned in discoloured letters:

In the RHS window, make sure that the value of PerfCplEnabled is set to 1.
