If you want to change the telemetry level on your system, open Group Policy Editor and navigate to the next parameter :

Computer Configuration Management Templates Windows Configuration Management Templates Data Collection and Preview of WindowsAllow Telemetry Components

Here Select On and select Base from the drop-down menu or any layer your operating system version allows.

This policy parameter determines the amount of diagnostic and usage data communicated to Microsoft. A value of 0 sends minimum data to Microsoft. This data includes malware removal tool (MSRT) and Windows Defender data, if enabled, and telemetry client settings. The value 0 only applies to Enterprise, EDU, IoT and server devices. A value of 0 for other devices equals a value of 1, a value of 1 transmits only a basic set of diagnostic and usage data. Note that setting 0 or 1 affects some experiments on the unit. A value of 2 sends extended diagnostic and usage data. A value of 3 sends the same data as a value of 2, plus additional diagnostic data, including files and content that might have caused the problem. Windows 10 telemetry settings apply to the Windows operating system and some first party applications. If you disable or do not configure this policy setting, users can configure the telemetry level in Settings.

Disable telemetry

If you are an individual home user and your version of Windows 10 does not come with the Group Policy Editor, run regedit to open the Registry Editor and navigate to the next key :

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREP policiesMicrosoftWindowsDataCollection

Create a new DWORD (32 bits) here, name it AllowTelemetry and give it the value 0. This will disable telemetry. If the key does not exist, you must create it.

You must now disable the Connected User Experiences and Telemetry service .

Run services.msc and search for this service. Double-click it and select Disabled under Startup Type .

Connected User Experiences and Telemetry service provides features that support connected applications and user experience. In addition, this service manages the collection and transmission of diagnostic and usage information (to enhance the Windows platform experience and quality) when the diagnostic and usage data protection options settings are enabled under Feedback and Diagnostics.

Alternatively, you can disable this service with Windows PowerShell and execute the following commands in sequence :

stop service graphs
set service diagtrack -startuptype disabled
