Error code 0x80004004 is one of the most annoying errors you can handle. This is because it is not specific to any part of your computer, regardless of the Windows operating system you have installed. It simply means that you cannot determine the exact cause, even if it is essential to be connected to the Windows Defender program or Microsoft Security. It is a Microsoft security service that protects your computer from external threats.
The error can be displayed on your computer screen with the message “Error 0x80004004 : E_ABORT. This error is due to an interrupted operation” or something similar to “The definitions of viruses and spyware could not be updated”. You may notice some symptoms several days before the error occurs. Your computer will most likely become very slow, and a running program may crash or crash.
This error means that the operation has been interrupted. Although it can be easily solved with few simple methods.
Solutions to correct the error 0x80004004:
Malware or suspicious software
This error can be caused by malware or a specific spyware/adware application can lead to this error, popup 0x80004004.

Run Windows Registry Editor

Temporarily disable a third-party security program
Third-party security programs installed on the PC can also cause conflicts that cause the error message when updating the Windows Defender virus definition. Therefore, disabling the antivirus program before updating the defender may be a solution.
You can temporarily disable all third-party antivirus programs on your PC by clicking Settings. Once the update process is complete, you can reactivate it for complete protection.
Changing Windows Defender settings
Set the Windows Defender service to Automatic instead of Disabled or Manual. To do this, follow these steps:
a) Click on Start, type Services in the Start search box, then, in the list of programs, click on Services.
If you are prompted to enter an administrator password or confirmation, enter your password or click Next.
b) Double-click on the Windows Defender service, then, in the Startup Type box, click Automatic.
c) Click on OK.
