With the input method editors on your Windows PC, you can easily enter different languages. An Input Method Editor or IME is a program that can receive input data in any language. It helps the user to enter special characters and symbols that are not usually found in standard keyboards. Not many people know this, but you can add IMEs to your PCs or even edit existing ones.
Windows 8.1 PCs come with an IME for each language. You can add new IMEs by adding different languages.
Add or install an additional input method editor
In the Control Panel, go to the Language tab. Click on any language for which you want an IME and go to’Options’. Click Add Input Method‘.
Now browse the available keyboards, view the preview, then click the IME you want to add to your Windows PC.
After adding the new language or input method to your PC, you can simply enter different languages
Change between IMEs
If you want to switch between different input methods or Microsoft IMEs, open Microsoft Word and simply hold the Windows logo key and press the space bar.
If you are on your Desktop, you can switch between the IMEs by simply tapping on the language codes written in your System Tray.
When using a PC Touch-capable or Tablet, you can switch between IMEs using the touch keyboard. Click the touch keyboard icon in the lower right corner of your tablet and switch from one input method to another.
You can also manually change the input method using your ‘PC settings‘ as follows :
Go to’PC Settings’ in the charm bar and click on’ENG Keyboard’. You can see a list of all IMEs added to your PC. Select the one you want
Simply right-click on the language shortcut in the lower right corner of your screen and a tab will open where you can change your language settings.
Configure the input method editor settings
Use the’Advanced settings’ option to adjust the settings as follows :
- Override pour la langue d’affichage Windows
- Override the default input method
- Change input methods and much more.
Adjust your settings and click Save. You can restore the default settings at any time by clicking’Restore default settings’ at the end.
You can also use the IME mode icon to switch between alphanumeric and native language characters.
