Windows Server 2016 is the latest version of the Microsoft server operating system. Developed in the style of Windows 10, the first technical overview was released on October 2014 and will soon be available to all. In addition to this news, Microsoft also described how Windows Server 2016 will be maintained in the future. In earlier versions of Windows Server, it was maintained and supported by a 5+5 model, which means there will be 5 years of general support and 5 years of extended support. This also applies to Windows Server 2016, the only difference is the nomenclature. Customers who choose to install Windows Server 2016 with one desktop GUI or one server core will receive the same maintenance experience as Long Term Servicing Branch (LTSB).

New service option for nano servers
With Windows Server 2016, Microsoft has introduced a new installation option Nano Server that provides an active maintenance model similar to the Windows 10 experience. With this option, Microsoft is taking advantage of the rapid revolution in the cloud and is targeting customers who want to innovate more frequently. Nanoserver installations are updated two to three times a year with versions Current Branch for Business (CBB) and offer new features to better support the movement of the cloud.
It is also important to note that new updates are not automatically transferred to your nanoserver systems. Server administrators can trigger the update manually. However, clients cannot hide behind more than 2 versions of Nano Server CBB because Nano Server is updated more frequently than the standard LTSB installation options. With each version of the CBB, its second immediate predecessor will no longer be operational. For example, if the fourth version is released and you are on the second version, you must upgrade to the latest version.
As the world evolves technologically rapidly, cloud computing is becoming increasingly important. With Windows Server 2016, Microsoft offers a cloud-compatible operating system with additional security layers and azure innovations for cloud-based applications.
