XWidget is a simple software that brings a touch of customization to your Windows computer while adding new features. XWidget is a light and handy but powerful visual widget editor with very subtle animations. Although there are many such Windows Dashboard programs, this freeware contains unique features and is the easiest to use. It has a simple and user-friendly interface that guides you step by step through all its features.
XWidget only comes in a 7 megabyte file, but the installer brings an irritating blogware from the Babylon Toolbar. It installs quickly on your computer system and opens with three widgets – a photo gallery, a clock and the weather – and is in the form of an icon in the system where you can configure the other functions.
XWidget has a total of fourteen standard widgets – DriverDock, AppsTab, iFolder Dock, System, Search, Recycle, Net, IP Address, RSS, Uptime, Time, Photo Album and Weather. However, this free software also supports many more widgets and the user can add more widgets in seconds by clicking More widgets in the context menu of the staff bar icon .
XWidget comes in two different modes: desktop mode and dashboard mode.
XWidget Desktop Mode
This brings a complete Mac-like dashboard to your Windows computer. You can get various widgets and install them quickly and easily on your computer system. You can also create new widgets, similar to the Mac OS X version.
All installed and created widgets are displayed on the desktop and live behind Windows. The widgets stay there, even if you click on’Show Desktop’. We can also organize these widgets by simple drag and drop.
XWidget Dashboard Mode
The Dashboard has a semi-transparent black background that gives a feeling similar to OSX. Unlike desktop mode, dashboard mode, widgets are displayed at the top of the screen. You go directly to the XWidget Dashboard mode by double-clicking with the central mouse button. The dashboard mode has a’plus’ button at the bottom left to add and remove widgets .
You can easily and quickly switch between desktop and dashboard mode, but it seems there are still a few bugs to fix. Some widgets often disappear when switching from one mode to another. To recover all widgets, you have to reboot the system, which is not very comfortable. It is better to stick to one of the two modes to avoid this error.
All widgets are very useful and offer a strong customization option for Windows users. It only takes four seconds to start, which is absolutely worth it compared to XWidget’s productivity. With 15 open widgets, XWidget uses 10k of RAM. It requires a maximum of 200k RAM to run heavy widgets.
Overall, XWidget is a simple feature for Windows that allows easy customization with many productive features. You can download it from here.
If your antivirus software issues a warning, it may be a false positive, as many download sites have given it a 100% clean certificate without malware.
