With Windows 8.1 Update your boot screen has been improved. Microsoft has worked hard to make the boot screen (16) more user-friendly. In this expansion series, you can now display more or fewer applications on your startup screen (16). By default, you will see a smaller number of applications when the down arrow is activated on your startup screen .

If you allow your Windows 8.1 system to display more applications, the same screen as above will be changed as shown above :

Obviously, more applications are displayed on the screen later, so the user can easily find their favorite applications and no longer has to scroll and search for the desired applications. Here are the possibilities to make this possible.

Hide applications or show additional applications with registry

1 Press the Windows key + R combination, type Regedt32.exe in the Run dialog box and press Enter to open the registry editor.

2 Navigate to next location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionImmersiveShellGrid

3 In the right area of this register, you will see a register DWORD (REG_DWORD (REG_DWORD) named Layout_ShowMoreppsVAAPsPluspps which must have 0 as a value to display fewer applications. Double-click on the same DWORD to get it :

4 In the field 1 above, enter the value data as to display other applications under Start screen. Click OK, you can now close the registry editor (16) and go to the start screen (16) to see the changes. I guess that’s it.
