Fix: An Existing Connection was Forcibly Closed by the Remote Host

Updated April 2024: Stop getting error messages and slow down your system with our optimization tool. Get it now at this link
  1. Download and install the repair tool here.
  2. Let it scan your computer.
  3. The tool will then repair your computer.

This happens with a socket connection between the client and the server. The connection is alive and well and huge amounts of data are transferred, but it is then disconnected from nowhere.

This usually means that the remote side has closed the connection (usually by sending a TCP/IP RST packet). If you are working with a third-party application, the probable causes are as follows:

  • You are sending incorrect data to the application.
  • The network connection between the client and the server is interrupted for any reason.
  • You caused an error in the third-party application that caused the application to crash.
  • The third-party application has exhausted system resources.

How to Repair An Existing Connection was Forcibly Closed by the Remote Host:

Troubleshooting the use of Traceroute

  1. Open Start. Click on the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen. The Start menu appears.
  2. Type the command prompt. This searches for the Command Prompt program on your computer.
  3. Click on Command prompt. It is at the top of the menu. The command prompt opens.
  4. Select a website for which you want to follow the itinerary.
  5. Enter the command “traceroute”. Type tracert website.com and replace website.com with the name and extension of your favorite site.

Use the registry editor

Open the Registry Editor and create the two Registry entries in these two locations:

HKLM\SYSTEMESYSTEM\Current order set\Control\Security provider\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.0\Server

HKLM\SYSTEM\All current orders\Control\Security provider\SCHANNEL\Protocols\TLS 1.0\Client

Name: DisableByDefault
Type : REG_DWORD
Data: 0

Enable cryptography

If cryptography has been disabled for your computer, the use of TLS 1.2 is prohibited. This is why we will activate cryptography in this step. For that:

  • Press “Windows” + “R” to open the Run command prompt.
  • Type “regedit” and press “Enter”.
  • Navigate to the following address

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\LE SOFTWARE\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.3031

  • Navigate to this address if there is no “SchUseStrongCrypto” value in the right field.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\.NETFramework\v4.0.30319

  • Double-click on the “SchUseStrongCrypto” option in the right part and enter “1” as the value.
  • Click OK to save your changes and check that the problem persists.

CONCLUSION

There will probably always be a “first chance exception” for a connection reset, so that resets can be distinguished from a smooth connection termination. This is usually not very important for HTTP connections, as it is possible to determine if the connection has been closed prematurely by looking at things like the Content-Length header, but Kestrel claims to be more than just an HTTP server.

In addition, an incomplete request body always causes an exception to be deleted by HttpContext.Request.Body.ReadAsync(), whether or not it is based on a connection reset, because the application server indicates that the download of the request body has not been successful.
