By default, changing the desktop background or wallpaper is easy under Windows 10. You can simply right-click on any image file and click Set as desktop background to set it as desktop background. You can also navigate to Settings > Customization > Background to select an image for the desktop background.
If you cannot change the Windows desktop background or set a new image as the desktop background, you can easily activate the desktop background by making the appropriate changes to the group policy or registry.
If the message “Some settings are managed by your organization” appears in the Settings customization area, it is likely that the desktop background change has been disabled in the group policy or registry.
Steps to follow if you cannot change the desktop background on Windows 10.
Using the Control Panel
1] Open the Control Panel and select the Easier Access Center. Then click on the “Optimize visualization” link. Scroll down until you find the “Making Your Computer More Visible” section. Make sure that the Remove wallpaper option (if available) is not checked. Save, Apply, Exit.
2] Open your Performance setting in the Control Panel. Open Power Options > Select your power plan > Edit plan settings > Edit advanced power settings > Expand Desktop Background Settings > Expand Slideshow.
Creating a new user account
I suggest you create a new user account and check if there is a problem.
To create a new user account, proceed as follows:
1. Click on Start.
2. Click on Settings.
3. In the search box, type “Add, modify or delete other users.
4. Click on’Add another person to this PC’.
5 And follow the instructions to create a new user account.
Delete the TranscodedWallpaper wallpaper or slideshow file in the registry editor.
Sometimes, you may not be able to change the background because the image file you are using is corrupted and must be deleted. To do that:
- Click Start, then select File Explorer.
- Add this path to the address bar: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Themes
- Double-click on the slideshow.ini file and open it in Notepad.
- Empty the contents of this file into Notepad by selecting and deleting all the text.
- Save the changes and close the File Explorer.
- Try changing the background again.
Expert Tip: This repair tool scans the repositories and replaces corrupt or missing files if none of these methods have worked.
