The common problems when downloading files and folders from the Internet are that sometimes this simply does not happen. And depending on the browser you use, the management of your downloads may vary. When a user clicks on the link to download a file, they either immediately open it to view it or download it to their computer. The file opens for viewing if the browser supports its format. If there is a problem, the file will refuse to open. The troubleshooting steps described in the following instructions for Firefox and Chrome browsers can help you.

Chrome or Firefox browsers cannot download or save files.

Check the Downloads window for blocked downloads.

Firefox includes a download protection feature to protect you against malicious or potentially dangerous file downloads. If Firefox has blocked an unsecured download, a warning message about the file will appear in the download area, as well as options to manage the pending download. You can open the Downloads window to see completed and pending downloads by clicking on the Downloads button (down arrow in the toolbar).

Run Chrome in safe mode

Although Google Chrome does not have a safe mode, such as Firefox or Windows, it offers another option that offers the same functionality and can save you a lot of trouble.

If you have found yourself in the terrible situation of having a broken version of Chrome, and you don’t want to uninstall and start over, you can start Chrome in “incognito” mode instead, which disables the extensions and allows you to disable them for bad Apple.

Setting up a shortcut to start Chrome in incognito mode is a simple four-step process:

  1. We recommend that you first make a copy of your shortcut so that you can access the browser normally once the problem is solved.
  2. Find your copied chrome shortcut, right-click it and select Properties.
  3. Select the “Destination” field and add “-incognito” at the end of the order.
  4. Click Apply, then click OK to save your changes.
