Don’t worry, we have your back.
Here we will show you how to configure IP cameras to send email. Fast solutions for testing email have failed.
This way, you will spend less time on IP camera email settings and have more time to enjoy the peace of mind that your security cameras bring with email notifications.
Update the firmware of Amcrest
A few months ago, Amcrest reportedly developed software to fix bugs that would be offered to owners the next time they log on. However, anyone who has not logged on during this period will probably not receive this notification.
According to Synopsis, all firmware versions (models 721S, 721W, 721B) up to V2.420.AC00.16.R 9/9/2016 inclusive are vulnerable. Based on this, you should look for the firmware version offered on the Amcrest website, V2.520.AC00.18.R.
It can be applied manually by entering the device user interface, checking the firmware versions and going to “Configuration” > “System” > “Update”.
The assumption that users update themselves at login (which many never do) is not sufficient. Owners should be encouraged to do so by e-mail or through a Twitter account of the company (@AmcrestSecurity).
Ironically, by the standards of the “Internet of Things,” Amcrest seems to be the responsible provider, where ignoring researchers and not offering patches can be the default position of some companies.
Click on the “plus” sign to activate the email address.
The Amcrest application has a bad user interface. Sometimes users think they have entered an email address, but the entered email address becomes active only after clicking on the plus sign. The same can be a problem for you, and clicking on the plus sign to make an email address active can solve the problem.
- Run the Amcrest Smart Home application and log in.
- Now click on the Settings icon.
- Then scroll down to the end and select Notifications via Email.
- Now select an e-mail service provider from a drop-down list, such as Gmail.
- Now enter your email address and password (which will be your sender’s email address) into the appropriate fields.
- Then enter the recipient’s email address and click on the plus sign.
- Now click the Save button and then click the Test email button to check if the problem has been solved.
We hope this guide has helped those who need help setting up email on their Amcrest HDPro or HDSeries camera. It took a lot of trial and error to fix it. If you follow the instructions below, you will save time.
