The SysMenu.dll error is only part of the malicious adware, which means that now many intrusive ads will be displayed on every web page you visit. The information generated by such an announcement mainly concerns discount coupons. For example, each visit to the online store, like Amazon, is accompanied by different banners with discount coupons and competitive prices. Malware also encourages the installation of suspicious third-party applications, allowing developers to generate pay-per-click revenue. The situation becomes even more serious as the infection detection rate is very slow, although some antivirus programs identify RunDLL SysMenu.dll as malware.

Although this may seem like a useful service, the SysMenu.dll program can be intrusive and display ads, whether you like it or not. These ads are intended to encourage the installation of other questionable content such as web browser toolbars, optimization utilities and other products so that the publisher can generate SysMenu.dll pay-per-click revenue.

Check the System Configuration

Locate the SysMenu.dll – Manually

  1. My first instinct was to open a high prompt and look for the “sysmenu.dll” file to find out which program it was assigned to, and either uninstall it from the Control Panel with Add/Remove Programs, or access the path (where the.DLL file was located) and manually delete the files with a high prompt.
  2. To open the high prompt, I did the following: I clicked Start, then clicked on “cmd” (no quotes); I waited for CMD.EXE or the prompt to appear in the list, then I right clicked on it and selected “Launch as administrator”. I then typed the following commands in the command prompt:

c :
cd \
you sysmenu.dll /s

Disable the Sysmenu.dll by Service or Startup

msconfig services

I then checked Jason’s Windows services (which start automatically at startup) and the Startup tab in the Task Manager. I started msconfig (click on Start, then type “msconfig” (without quotes) and click on it). Then I clicked on the Services tab, checked the Hide all Microsoft services box, and checked the rest of the entries. I found an entry called “Search Protect” that I noticed, but I disabled all the entries just to see if it would make a difference.

As “Search Protect” sounded related to the web browser, I decided to launch all of Jason’s web browsers and checked his add-ons, but I didn’t see anything unusual. I then restarted the computer in the hope that disabling its boot elements could have solved the problem, but it didn’t.
