If you’re suddenly bothered by iCloud calendar spam invitations, here are the steps to get rid of it all in Apple Mail on Mac and iOS.

Apple usually does such a good job of fighting spam that we don’t even need to think about it. But sometimes a new tidal wave can suddenly occur. While Apple seemed to have faced the biggest wave a few years ago, attacks are on the rise again.

Here’s what you can do to free yourself from today’s events and hopefully never have them again.

Disable the Calendar in iCloud

The very first and easiest way to delete calendar emails is to disable the calendar option in your iCloud. If you are using iCloud on your device, this will happen on your device. There are tutorials that suggest you do this with a computer. But I won’t share the same with you.

  • Access your iPhone settings.
  • Click YOUR NAME > iCloud.
  • Turn off the calendar button.
  • Click “Remove from my iPhone”.

All events and junk mail will be deleted from your device. Now you can take a deep breath because I know you feel safe. That’s all. If this method doesn’t work for you, you can try the other one.

Preventing Push Notifications for Spam Calendar

The default setting in your iCloud calendar is to send event invitations – also known as “spam” – to your iPhone as a notification in the application. You can change this setting to have invitations sent to you by email instead – and hopefully your email account will be able to filter out some of them. The disadvantage of this method is that you won’t receive “push” notifications for calendar invitations – including those from your friends and family.

  • To change this setting, go to icloud.com with a laptop or desktop browser (it won’t work on a mobile browser) and log in with your iCloud credentials.
  • Go to the calendar, click on the Settings (Aisle) icon in the lower left corner of the screen and select Settings.
  • On the Settings menu, click the Advanced tab. Next to Invitations, click the radio button next to E-mail to [your e-mail address]. You will no longer receive “push” notifications about new iCloud calendar invitations, but you will receive invitations in your inbox.

You can also disable push notifications for the calendar application on your iPhone. If you use this method, you will not receive invitations in your inbox.

  • Open the Settings application and go to Notifications > Calendar. Clear the check box next to Allow notifications if you want to disable all notifications, or tap Invitations to disable notifications and notifications for incoming calendar invitations only. (You can still see all invitations by opening the calendar application and tapping Inbox in the lower left corner).

How to report and remove iCloud calendar spam

  • Go to iCloud on the web and connect to your desktop or laptop.
  • Open the calendar application
  • Open the spam event and click on Report Spam
  • Click on OK

If you report calendar spam as unwanted, it will also be deleted from all your Apple devices that sync with this iCloud account. In the future, we hope to have a button for reporting junk email in the Calendar application on iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Create a Spam Calendar in the Calendar app on iPhone

You can also create a “spam” calendar in the calendar application and assign questionable invitations to it. You can then delete the calendar, which will also delete the invitation. If you receive many spam calendar invitations, this may be a better way to get rid of them all at once.

  • Launch the Calendar application on your iPhone.
  • Tap Calendar at the bottom center of the screen.
  • Tap Edit in the top left corner of the screen.
  • Tap Add a calendar in iCloud.
  • Name the calendar as spam.
  • Type “Done”.
  • Tap Back in the upper left corner of the screen to return to the calendar view.
  • Tap Spam Invitation.
  • Tap Calendar, located just below the invitation name.
  • Type Spam. This adds the invitation to the new “Spam” calendar.
  • Tap Back in the top left corner of the screen to return to calendar view.
