Clear the Network Client for Windows Network check box.
For the first solution, you must contact the Network and Sharing Center. Please follow these steps:
- Right-click on the network icon you want to be in the taskbar.
- Click on Network and Internet Settings.
- Select Change Adapter Options on the right side of the window.
- You should now see the window with all network connections.
- Right-click on your Wi-Fi or Ethernet and select Properties.
- Clear the Client check box for Microsot Network and click OK. Once this is done, you should no longer see the 0x800704cf error on your screen.
CUSTOMIZE THE SETTINGS OF THE VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK
Virtual private networks (VPNs) are very useful for protecting you on the Internet because they hide your identity by routing your connection through secure servers.
However, they seem to interfere with your Microsoft Store configuration. After installing the VPN software, a virtual Ethernet adapter called a TAP device is usually installed.
Many VPNs do not support IPv6, and if IPv6 remains enabled for the TAP adapter installed on your computer when using such a VPN, the error 0x800704cf may appear.
- To solve this problem, go to Control Panel>Network and Internet>Network and Share Center and select Change Adapter Settings in the left pane.
- Here you must select the TAP adapter installed on your device.
- Right-click on the adapter and select Properties, then deselect IPv6.
Perform a network troubleshooting
The first step to correct the error “0x800704CF – It does not look like you are connected to the Internet” in the Windows store is to troubleshoot the network. To do that:
1.Right-click on the Wi-Fi image (or LAN icon) at the bottom right of the taskbar and select Troubleshooting.
2 Follow the on-screen instructions to solve the problem.
Disable or uninstall your antivirus/security suite.
In some cases, I have seen that some antivirus programs, such as Avast or AVG Antivirus, can cause network problems after updating their engine or after an update of Windows. In these cases, I prefer to uninstall and reinstall the security protection program.
So, if you are using an antivirus program or firewall that protects you from Internet traffic, try to disable Internet (Web) protection or – better said – temporarily uninstall the security program from your computer. Then try to reconnect to Microsoft Store, and if the error “0x800704CF” is fixed, reinstall your security program.
Resetting the TCP/IP stack
The transmission control protocol contains some rules that establish the Internet connection on your PC. If there are incorrect configuration changes in this tool, increase the risk of code error 0x800704cf on your system. Resetting the TCP/IP can be used as a troubleshooting guide in such scenarios.
- Click on the Search icon in the taskbar and type cmd in the search pane.
- Now right-click on the Command Prompt option and select Run as administrator.
- When the UAC prompt appears, press Yes to allow access.
- Then execute the following code –
- ipconfig /flushdns
- This command clears the DNS cache, which is a possible reason for the error code 0x800704cf when connecting to the network.
- If you succeed after that, you must update the NetBIOS name. Simply execute this command –
- nbtstat –RR
- Run the following command lines to reset the Internet Protocol (IP) and Winsock catalog.
- netsh int ip reset
- netsh winsock reset
- Once these commands have been successfully executed, restart your PC to save the changes made so far.
