If you frequently play games on your PC, you may be familiar with Origin. This article explains how to fix Origin, has encountered a serious problem and needs to be closed.
In fact, this is one of the most common Origin problems that users often encounter. It can happen in any situation. Most often, however, this problem occurs when trying to connect to Origin, or when starting the PC or just after opening the Origin client. There are many possible reasons for this source error.
A conflict between an antivirus and a firewall, network problems, problems with a third-party service, corrupted settings or cache, obsolete system components, etc. can cause this problem. Origin is an EA game client similar to Steam and UPlay. It allows you to log in to an account and manage all the games associated with that account. Origin has built-in memory and includes certain exclusive rights from EA that can only be played by Origin.
Start your PC in Safe Mode
- If you are using Windows 10, follow these steps to clean up the startup process:
- Open the Start menu by clicking on the Windows icon in the lower left corner of your screen.
- Type msconfig in the search field and press Enter. The system configuration window will appear.
- Click on the Services tab.
- Check the box to hide all Microsoft services and then click the “Disable all” button on the right.
- Click on the Start tab and then click on Open Task Manager.
- When the list is fully loaded, right-click and select Disable for each of the listed programs.
- Close the Task Manager window to return to the System Configuration window.
- Click OK to save your changes, then restart your computer.
Empty the Origin Cache
The corrupted application cache can cause the Origin client to crash. You can try clearing the Origin cache to see if this problem persists. Learn how to do this here:
- Close Origin while it is running. Simply click Origin in the menu bar and select Exit.
- Press the Windows and R keys on your keyboard at the same time to open the Run dialog box. Then type %ProgramData% and press Enter.
- Double-click on the Origin folder in the pop-up window to open it.
- Delete all files and folders in this folder, except for the LocalContent folder.
- Press the Windows and R keys on your keyboard at the same time to open the Run dialog box. Then type %AppData% and press Enter.
- In the pop-up window, delete the Origin folder.
- Click AppData in the address bar.
- Double-click the Local folder to open it.
- Delete the Origin folder from the Local folder.
- Restart Windows.
- Double-click the Origin shortcut on your desktop.
Sometimes an antivirus or firewall can interfere with the original game or client update process. As a result, you may experience this problem. To avoid this type of situation, make sure that you have temporarily disabled the antivirus or firewall. If you now see that everything is working, simply enable the antivirus and add the source to the exception list. It can help you fix the source if a serious problem has occurred.
Run Origin as an Administrator
The origin may sometimes not work properly if it does not have administrator privileges. If Origin still crashes after clearing the Origin cache, you can try running Origin as an administrator. This section explains how to do this:
