Several users have contacted us to ask us questions after being annoyed by the error ‘RVC is already running’ each time they boot the system. Other affected users have made it worse and report that if this error occurs, their screen turns white and the computer crashes after about a minute. The problem does not seem to be specific to a particular version of Windows, as confirmed on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

 

Is RVC a security threat?

Before trying other repair strategies, it is important that you begin to troubleshoot by making sure that you are not dealing with a security threat. Some malware is programmed to use the names of real utilities to hide from security scanners.

To make sure this is not the case, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager utility. Once there, go to the Process tab and search for the RTFTrack.exe executable of the parent RVC service. If you see it, check its location and see if it is different from *OS Drive*\Windows\RTFTrack.exe.

If the location is different, it clearly indicates that it may be a security threat. To conduct further surveys, right-click on the RTFTrack.exe process and select Open file location.

Running a clean boot

Although the next steps may seem complicated at first glance, just follow them in order, step by step, and we’ll try to get you back on track.

To restart Windows 10, do the following.

1. Log in to your computer as an administrator.
2. Click on Start and type msconfig.
3. Select System configuration in the search results.
4. In the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.
5. On the Start tab of the System Configuration dialog box, press or click Open Task Manager.
6. In the Task Manager’s Start tab, select the item for each start item and click Disable.
7. Close the Task Manager.
8. In the Startup tab of the System Configuration dialog box, press or click OK, and then restart your computer.
