Borderlands 3 may be a witty and fun game with a lot of pop culture references like Rick and Morty and Tommy Wiseau, but it’s also a mess on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in particular, with a dozen crashes and stuttering performance issues.

While Gearbox is delighted that Borderlands 3 is a huge hit on the Epic Games Store, despite the pre-launch boycotts, many gamers are unhappy with the game’s performance on PC.

There is an endless stream of complaints about crashes and stuttering on Twitter and other social media forums. You don’t have to jump through hoops to play the new AAA product, but you can still find fixes for PC performance issues below.

These errors can be caused by many different problems, so there is no universal solution. Here are some troubleshooting steps that have proven successful for many users:

Launch Epic Games Launcher as Administrator

Sometimes Borderlands 3 crashes due to permissions issues on PC. In this case, you will need to run the Epic Games Launcher as administrator.

Step 1. Right-click the Epic Games Launcher icon on your desktop and select Properties.

Step 2: go to the Compatibility tab. Then activate the Run this program as administrator option in the Settings section.

Update Microsoft C ++ Redistributables

For compatibility, C ++ versions 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2010 SP1 must be installed. All four C ++ Redistributable Packages are required. Make sure you have installed the x86 version for 32 bit applications. You can find these 4 versions from the links below. Install each of them one at a time and, if you have the opportunity, select the “Restore” option.

Checking the integrity of game files

Before proceeding to troubleshoot with other methods, let’s first verify that the game’s installation files are intact and not damaged. If the file is damaged, the game may fail to load or crash. Since you’ve installed the game on Steam, let’s go to the Steam library, find Borderlands 3 and check its integrity.

The validation process compares existing local files against the online manifest. If some items are missing, the latest version will be downloaded from the Internet and replaced.

  • Launch the Steam client and click the Library button on the top bar.
  • Now find Borderlands, right click it and choose Properties.
  • Now go to the Local Files tab and select Verify Integrity of Game Files.
  • Now wait for the process to complete. Restart your computer and try again.

If none of the above solutions worked, the problem might be hardware related. If your console crashes while playing other games, you will need to send it in for repair. Contact Microsoft for help setting up a recovery.
