Right-clicking opens the context menu assigned to an icon or button. Some users have a problem with Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome when they cannot use the right-click option. If right-click doesn’t work in Firefox or Chrome, this article can help you solve the problem.

Before performing any of the recommended troubleshooting steps listed below, it is best to first restart your computer. This action will update the operating system and remove any corrupted temporary data that may be causing the problem.

There are several factors that can cause this particular problem, from a bug in the Firefox software to a corrupt installation. Here are the troubleshooting steps you can take to resolve this problem.

Run Firefox in safe mode

Your browser may have add-ons, plug-ins, or extensions that are causing this problem. To check if this is the case, you need to run your browser in safe mode.

  • Open Firefox, type “about: support” in the navigation bar and press Enter.
  • Under “Troubleshooting information”, click “Restart with add-ons disabled” (under “Try safe mode”). When prompted in the confirmation window, click “Reboot” again.
  • In the next Firefox Safe Mode window, click Start in Safe Mode to finally start rebooting.
  • Wait for your browser to reboot in Safe Mode, and then check to see if the problem persists. In safe mode, if you can right-click, go back to normal mode, type “about: addons” in the navigation bar and press Enter.
  • In the “Extensions” menu, systematically disable the installed extensions until you find the culprit. Once you know which of the installed extensions is causing the problem, uninstall them and restart your browser.

Close the web page that blocks right-clicks

Many website administrators disable right-clicking on their websites. However, the script used sometimes disables right-clicking on all browser pages. In this situation, you can close the Rouge website (or any website associated with the same website).

If you are not sure which web site is blocking right-clicking, close your browser and restart it. Start by opening websites one at a time.

Remove malware and viruses from your system

Browsers are prime targets for malware and viruses. To reduce your control over web pages, malware and viruses block right-clicking in browsers. In such a case, it is recommended to use reliable antivirus software to remove viruses from your system and remove malware.

Clean up Firefox from scratch

Some Firefox problems can be solved by reinstalling Clean. This means removing Firefox program files and reinstalling Firefox. This process does not remove information from your Firefox profile (such as bookmarks and passwords) because that information is stored elsewhere.

To reinstall Firefox, follow these steps: Note: You can print out these steps or view them in another browser.

  • Download the latest version of Firefox for desktop from mozilla.org (or choose to download for your operating system and language on this page) and save the installation file to your computer.
  • When the download is complete, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox New Fx menu and click “Close” 29).
  • By default, delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of the following locations:
  • Windows:
  • C: \ Program Files \ Mozilla Firefox
  • C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Mozilla Firefox
  • Now reinstall Firefox:
  • Double-click the downloaded installation file and follow the instructions of the installation wizard.
  • Once the wizard is complete, open Firefox as soon as you click “Done”.
