Like Netflix Party, Amazon adds its own version of social viewing, allowing up to 100 Amazon Prime Video users to watch movies or TV shows simultaneously.
What is a Prime Video Watch Party?
An Amazon Prime Video Watch Party can have up to 100 participants in a group, but each person must have a U.S.-based Amazon Prime membership – which costs $119 (or $8.99 per month) on an annual basis in the United States.
Once you have a membership, you can use Prime Video to join a Watch Party or create one. You can even choose from thousands of titles, including original and licensed content. Originals include Fleabag, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Jack Ryan, The Big Sick, The Boys, Homecoming and My Spy. Titles that are available for rental or purchase are not available at launch.
How to Launch an Amazon Prime Video Watch Party
It’s pretty much a given, but you and other viewers need a subscription to Prime Video. Here you can find out what you need to do if you have logged in with a browser:

You can invite up to 100 attendees. Anyone with a valid invitation link can join Watch Party. However, they must have access to appropriate Prime Video titles included in their Prime subscription. Hosts can only restrict access by terminating the Watch Party.
Safari and Internet Explorer (IE) web browsers are not supported for Amazon Prime Video Watch Party.
To start a Watch Party, click the Watch Party icon on the movie or show page on the Amazon Prime Video desktop website. You will then be given a link to share with your friends and family. Those who click on the link can join the session and then chat with others.
To join a Watch Party, click on the link you received using a desktop web browser. When you are redirected to the title, enter “What’s your name?” enter your desired username and then click “Join Watch Party” to join the Watch Party.
Is Prime Video Watch Party Available in the UK?
Not currently. Prime Video Watch Party is only available in the United States, but Amazon may soon expand to other countries.
If you are wondering if you want to use a VPN to work around this issue, Amazon warns you will only see an error message.
Amazon states, “If you are traveling outside the United States, eligible Prime members will see a “Watch While Abroad” carousel when watching the Prime video.
