There are so many streaming options available today, so you need to choose the right one for the best results. You can use online services like YouTube and Twitch, as well as some third-party apps.

How to Go Live on Discord

• To download, your game must be recognized by our built-in game discovery system and you must actively display the server! When your game is detected, a Go Live tab will appear in the lower left corner of the screen above the status bar.
• Note: you can only download your game from the Windows desktop client.
• Spectating is available on desktop and in the Chrome browser. Mobile Client Spectating has not been released yet, but will be soon!
• Note. If you can’t see the game, try adding it manually by selecting “User Settings”> “Game Actions”> “Add”!
• If your game is not recognized by Game Detection or by adding it manually, you will unfortunately not be able to download it.
• Awesome! Once you have identified your game, click the Go Live button. A window will open where you can select your voice channel. It will look like this:
• You should see a small picture-in-picture (PiP) window of the game you’re sharing so you can see what it looks like!

Adjust your stream settings

When you hover your mouse pointer over the small preview window of the feed, a gear icon appears. Click here to adjust the stream settings, such as image quality and frame rate. Note that if you want 1080p 60 frames per second, you’ll need a Discord Nitro account, a premium service that costs $9.99 per month. Nitro members can even stream at 4K 60 fps if their machine can handle it. Everyone else is limited to 720p and 30 frames per second.

Discord streams are currently limited to 50 viewers, but that only applies to people watching the stream. You can still join a voice channel for more than that amount, but you can’t stream anyone if they reach that viewer limit.

Share the screen.

If you’re more into streaming for purposes other than gaming, you’ll always want to start with the Go Live button. Instead of starting a game, just press the Go Live button to open a menu where you can select apps or screens to stream. If you just want to share a particular app, such as a web browser, it will be displayed under “Apps” while you open it. The screens display your entire screen.
