How to run Bash on Ubuntu under Windows 10

  1. Download and install the repair tool here.
  2. Let it scan your computer.

  • Right-click the Start button and open the command prompt (Admin) or PowerShell.

    • type bash at the command prompt and Enter. You will receive a message This message installs Ubuntu under Windows, distributed by Canonical and? . Type y to continue. Press’y’ and the download from the Windows store will start. After the download, the file system is extracted. It will take time, so be patient.
    • After some time you get the message Installation successful ! and you will be at the Bash prompt.
  • From here you can now run bash, Linux command line tools like sed, awk, grep and even Linux-first tools like Ruby, Git, Python, etc directly under Windows. You can also access the Windows file system from Bash.
  • After installation, it is also listed in the applications list. To open all applications and click Bash on Ubuntu under Windows to open the bash

    prompt.

  • Remember is a set of development tools that helps you write and create all your code for all your scenarios and platforms. It is not a server platform on which you host websites, run server infrastructure, and so on.

    Because this is one of the coolest things that happens to Windows, you should try it if you are interested in Linux, Ubuntu on Windows.
