Windows PCs come with many preinstalled applications that run in the background until you turn them off. Whether you use these applications or not. OneDrive app is one of them, but it is only enabled if you are logged in with your Microsoft account.
Remember that disabling OneDrive and uninstalling OneDrive are two different things. However, it’s the same thing because disabled applications won’t work until you reactivate them.
If you disable OneDrive, it will also be removed from your file explorer and you can reactivate it at any time. Before the Windows 10 Creators update, disabling OneDrive was a bit complicated, but Windows 10 v1703 now allows you to easily uninstall Microsoft OneDrive App from the Preferences window. This article explains how to disable the OneDrive application from your Windows 10 PC.
Uninstall OneDrive under Windows 10
Press Win+I and open the Settings Panel->App & Features panel and search for Microsoft OneDrive.
Double-click the application and click the Uninstall tab.
If you have not yet updated your Windows PC with Windows 10 Creators Update, you can disable the OneDrive application using the Run command. This allows you to uninstall OneDrive on Windows 10 or even on your Windows 8 PC.
- Open the Run dialog box by pressing Win+R.
- Type cmd to open the command prompt.
- Type TASKKKKILL /f /in OneDrive.exe to stop the OneDrive process running.
To completely uninstall OneDrive from your Windows 10/8 PC, type the following commands in a CMD prompt :
- Type : %systemroot%System32OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall – for a 32-bit system,
- Type : %systemroot%SysWOW64OneDriveSetup.exe /uninstall – for a 64-bit system.
These commands completely remove OneDrive from your PC, but some application-related files and folders may still be somewhere on your PC. Your OneDrive files and folders will be preserved even after the application is deleted. To delete the remaining files and folders from the application, manually search and delete OneDrive in the ProgramData, LocalAppData and UserProfile folders.
