In the past, we have released several fixes to various problems related to downloading, installing and updating Windows Store Apps and Windows Update. Some errors had common error messages, but they advocated different error codes. It has been observed that if you have a wrong proxy configuration on your system:
1 When using Windows Store Apps, the following errors may occur:
- This application has not been installed – view details.
- Something happened and this application could not be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0x8024401c
- Your purchase could not be completed. Something has happened and your purchase cannot be completed.
- Something happened and this application could not be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0x8024401c
- Your network proxy does not work with the Windows store. For more information, contact your system administrator.

2 In addition Windows Update cannot check for updates or download updates, and you receive the following error code 8024401C 8024401C or error message :
- There was an update verification problem.
3 Live Tiles for some applications may not update their content or never display live content.
4 Applications included in Windows 8 may indicate that you are not connected to the Internet. If you installed other applications from the Windows store while connected to another network, these applications may also indicate that you are not connected to the Internet. Applications can display one of the following error messages :
- There was a connection problem.
- You are not connected to the Internet.
The error messages we have entered here are most likely confronted with WiFi network connections (LAN connections). KB2778122 suggests ways to work around the above errors. Let’s see the solutions:

3 In section Proxy server, click Advanced.
4 In the window Proxy settings for section Exceptions, enter the following entries with commas:
- login.live.com
- account.live.com
- clientconfig.passport.net
- *.windowsupdate.com
- *.wns. windows.com
- *.outlook.com
- *. microsoft.com
- *.msftncsi.com/ncsi.txt
- *.hotmail.com
Click OK. Close the Settings window Internet Properties, this completes the correction to download / install Windows Apps.
Now run Netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie at the administrative command prompt (16) to export the settings you have configured and work for Windows Update.
Restart the computer if you want the changes to take effect.
