Compression of files

To free up disk space, this update can compress files in the directory of your user profile so that Windows Update can install important updates. When files or folders are compressed, they seem to have two blue arrows on the icon. Depending on the settings in the File Explorer, you may see icons that appear larger or smaller. The following screenshot shows an example of these icons.

After installing the update, your files are restored to their original state and the blue arrows disappear from the file icons in the file explorer. You should be able to access your files at any time during the update process.

Microsoft Support Notification

This update can display a notification on devices with limited space. When this notification is selected, a Microsoft support URL opens in the default browser with Microsoft support contact options, so you can easily get help to make room on your device.

Disk Cleanup

Once this update is installed, you will have new options to clean the disk space to make it easier to update your device if it has little space on your hard disk. If a feature update fails due to a small amount of disk space, you can help increase disk space by using the Disk Cleanup tool or by selecting “Free up space now” in Settings / Storage. This will help you delete unused files and free up space before upgrading to a major feature update.
