There is a freeware called Xirrus WiFi Inspector that can answer all your WiFi questions in one window. Xirrus WiFi Inspector is free and also runs under Windows 7, WiFi Inspector starts listing all active WiFi connections nearby. The radar shows WiFi connections and signal strength in decibels. The connections with the highest signals are directed towards the center of the radar.
At the bottom of the window is a graph called a signal curve. It displays the graph in relation to the signal strength. For each network it finds, Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector tells you whether it is encrypted or not, and if so, what encryption it uses; signal strength; router manufacturer; channel and frequency it uses.
WiFi Inspector has built-in speed and quality control function that allows you to test the available speed. The interesting part of the application contains the query function with which you can update, stop and start the connection.
To facilitate troubleshooting, the software also displays your IP address, adapter information, and IP configuration.
