When you try to install or update a game, some users receive an error message indicating that Uplay cannot start the download. This error message can be triggered in several situations.
What is obvious is that you may have lost your Internet connection. If you can access a website from your computer, this is clearly not the case.
Whether it is a connection problem or not, the first necessary step is to launch Uplay with administrator rights.

If you have a working Internet connection and enough space on your hard disk, try reinstalling Uplay: This error message is sometimes a symptom of an obsolete version of the Uplay PC.
If the same problem occurs after a reinstallation, you may need to troubleshoot the connectivity.
Go with the preview version of Uplay
If the “Uplay can’t start your download” error appears, no matter what game you download, you can try to switch to the preview version to solve this problem.
Step 1: Double-click the Uplay client icon on your desktop to open it.
Step 2: Click on the menu button, then select Settings.
Step 3: In the General tab, type and select the Try preview versions option.
Step 4: Open Uplay again and check if the error “Uplay cannot start your download” disappears.
Using the Google DNS address
The root cause of this problem may be the setting of your DNS address. The best thing to do is to change the default DNS address you use to a free Google address. Many users around the world have been able to solve the problem by simply following these steps!
- Open the Run dialog box by simultaneously pressing Windows Key + R. When the box opens, type “inetcpl.cpl” in the Open text box and click the OK button.
- You can also open the Control Panel by searching for it in the Start menu. Change the display by changing the setting to Category and click to open the network and Internet.

- In any case, locate the current network adapter you are using, right-click on the icon and select
- Properties from the pop-up menu that appears. To do this, use the following list of items, locate and left-click on the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) option before clicking on Properties.
- In the General tab, select the second option button to use the following DNS server addresses. Use 8.8.8 and 220.127.116.11 as preferred or alternative DNS servers.
