This procedure attempts to disable AcroTray.exe on your computer. A team from the Adobe forum proposed this patch:

  1. Press Window + R and type msconfig in the dialog box and press Enter. This should open the System Configuration window. In Windows 10, you can click on the search icon and type msconfig. The system configuration must appear in the results.
  2. Go to the Start tab and search for AcroTray. If you find it, uncheck the box next to it.
  3. Click Apply, then click OK.

Disabling Adobe AcroTray with Autoruns

Autoruns is a utility that allows you to track and control all programs that automatically start when Windows starts. If you cannot find AcroTray in the Task Manager or it does not work, you can simply disable it at startup with this tool. Follow the steps below to download and use the Autoruns utility:

  1. Click on the following link and download the latest version of the utility: Autoruns
  2. Unzip the downloaded file with WinRAR.
  3. Now open the extracted folder, right-click on the Autoruns64.exe file and select Run as Administrator.
  4. Locate Acrobat Assistant (AcroTray) and disable it in the list.
  5. Restart your computer and it will not restart.
