If you have Windows 10 Pro, you can enable Windows Defender Application Guard to protect your PC from malware and other attacks while surfing the Internet.

Under Windows 10, Windows Defender Application Guard (WDAG) is a feature that allows you to isolate Microsoft Edge at the hardware level using Hyper-V technology to protect your device and data against malware and zero-day attacks.

Application Guard is not new on Windows 10, it is a feature introduced with the Creators Update case, but it was limited to Windows 10 Enterprise. Since the April 2018 update (version 1803), this feature is now available for devices running Windows 10 Pro with processors supporting virtualization.

Before you can install and use Windows Defender Application Guard, you must determine how you want to use it in your company. You can use Application Guard in stand-alone mode or in enterprise mode.

To activate Windows Defender Application Guard

 

To enable this function, go to Control Panel > Programs > Enable or disable Windows functions.

Enable the Windows Defender Application Guard option in the list here, then click the OK button.

3] Under the Programs and functions option, find the Enable or disable Windows functions link.

4] A new window opens. Locate Windows Defender Application Guard in the list and check the box next to it.

5] Click OK.

6] Restart the system.

To install with PowerShell

Click on the Search or Cortana icon in the Windows 10 taskbar, then type PowerShell.

Right-click on Windows PowerShell, then click Run as Administrator.

Windows PowerShell opens with administrator credentials.

Type the following command:

Enable WindowsFunctionalityOptionnalFunctionality – Online -FunctionalityName of the Windows Defender ApplicationGuard

Restart the device.

Application Guard and the underlying dependencies are all installed.

Launch of Edge in the Application Guard

After the installation of Application Guard, Edge continues to operate in normal browser mode. The only difference is that you can open a secure browser window that is protected by this function. To launch Edge in Application Guard, simply follow the instructions below:

Launch Microsoft Edge as usual.
Once the Edge is at the top, click Menu and select the New Application Guard window.
A separate Microsoft Edge window opens. You should see the orange “Application Guard” badge in the upper left corner of the window. This indicates that you are using a browser protected by this function.
