Some Firefox users report the SEC_ERROR_OCSP_FUTURE_RESPONSE error when opening a web page in Firefox or Opera. The SEC_ERROR_OCSP_FUTURE_RESPONSE error in Firefox or Opera has nothing to do with security settings and is not related to the web browser. The SEC_ERROR_OCSP_FUTURE_RESPONSE error is due to an incorrect configuration of the device’s time and date settings. Firefox issues the SEC_ERROR_OCSP_FUTURE_RESPONSE error if the time and date are incorrectly set or configured. In this article, I will show you how to easily fix the SEC_ERROR_OCSP_FUTURE_RESPONSE error in Firefox and Opera browsers.
This message – “sec_error_ocsp_future_response” – almost always indicates that your system clock is set to a past date or time. Could you check if all three are correct in Windows?
- Time Zone
If you have configured Windows to use an Internet time update service, this service may sometimes be delayed. In this case, you can simply set your own time locally.
Upgrading Firefox to the Latest Version
It turns out that the problem is much more common with the v47 or lower version of Firefox. It turns out that the problem may be caused by a bug in Mozilla Firefox that affected the appearance of some CSS elements. Fortunately, Mozilla has already solved the problem with a patch released with version 51.
If this scenario applies and you are using an obsolete version of Firefox, here is a quick guide to update Firefox to the latest version:
- Open Firefox and click on the action button in the upper right corner of the screen.
- Then click on the Help tab in the pop-up menu that appears, and select About Firefox from the submenu.
- In the next window, wait until the scan is finished. If a new update is available, click Restart to update Firefox to begin the update process.
Once the update is installed, your browser should automatically restart to allow you to test and see if the problem is resolved.
Changing Date and Time Settings
- Open the Windows Control Panel, go to Clock, Language and Region.
- Go to Set Time and Date.
- Open the date and time settings as an administrator.
- Set the correct date and time settings, restart Firefox for the changes to take effect.
Once the correct date and time settings are provided, the SEC_ERROR_OCSP_FUTURE_RESPONSE error occurs in Firefox.
Disabling OCSP Controls
If none of the above methods have solved the problem, it is still possible to disable the OCSP request entirely. While this certainly solves the problem because the OCSP check is no longer performed, it also opens up your computer to some security risks.
