This error message can be displayed in the Event Viewer.

There is a KB979391 explaining ONLY why this happens, but no real correction in this article. Some forums have reported that this problem can be solved by reinstalling your Virtual Drive software such as Alcohol 120%, DAEMON Tools Lite etc.

One thing to remember is that after removing the software, there is a good chance it will leave the SPTD.sys driver behind. This driver is well known under Windows 7 for frequent crashes, including blue screens.

There is an uninstaller to help you remove. Download the application here. Start the application, then click Uninstall to remove it.

restart computer to take effect.

You can also use the recording method to turn it off:

  • Go to Start under Search type in Regedit
  • Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSystemSsptd
  • In the right window, the DWORD start value is set to 4 and the computer is restarted once.

Let’s hope it helps someone.
