Upgrading to Windows 10 with Windows Updates seems to be a painful task for some users. After Windows 10 was released, many users reported that various error codes during the upgrade. We’ve seen solutions for some common installation and upgrade error codes and what you can try if your, .

Today, we are back to report another bug we just discovered. When upgrading from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home via Windows Updates, we received the following error message :

Installation failure: Windows could not install the next update with error code 0x8024200. Upgrade to Windows 10 Home.

If you are caught by such error codes, make sure it is not a specific problem Windows Update. That is, check if you can install other Windows updates that are available to you. If all updates with an error code fail, you can try Windows Update Automated Troubleshooter to find and fix the cause.

If updates are installed without problems and the error occurs only when you install a specific Windows 10 update for an upgrade, you must take a different approach to solving the problem. In this case, you may conclude that Windows has blocked your upgrade and that it is not just a Windows Update error.

You can try the following fixes to solve this problem:

Use prompt

1 Open one prompt or administrative prompt. We will rename the download folder of the SoftwareDistribution folder.

2 In the administrative prompt window (16), enter these commands one by one and press Enter after each command:

net stop wuauserv

rename to C:WindowsSoftwareDistributionDownload Download.old

netto start wuauserv

wuaucult. exe /updatenow

Once each command has been successfully executed, you can restart and try installing the updates.
