The “NET::ERR_CERT_SYMANTEC_LEGACY” error is usually accompanied by a message saying “This connection is not private”. This error typically occurs because Google Chrome no longer recognizes a Symantec SSL/TLS certificate issued before June 1, 2016.
Beginning with version 66 of Google Chrome and Firefox 60, support for older Symantec certificates (certificates issued before June 1, 2016) is suspended due to a number of issues. If your site uses one of these certificates, the site will not have the green padlock and your visitors will receive a warning. This also applies to the certificates of the following vendors, as they are (former) subcontractors/partners of Symantec: Thawte, VeriSign, Equifax, GeoTrust and RapidSSL.
Try the guest mode
In some cases, third-party chrome extensions can cause secure connection errors. Therefore, you should browse in guest mode to see if you can visit this problematic web page. If you can, disable all extensions and see what happens. You can enable them individually. That way, you can easily find out which one is causing the problem. You can then disable that extension. Update website certificate
Sometimes the site owner’s certificate is not supported for many reasons. In this case, inform the web site owner to update the certificate to resolve the err_cert_symantec_legacy inheritance issue.
Update your browser
You can also update Google Chrome. It’s possible that your version is too old and you’re experiencing these problems. Please note that if your browser has errors, you may not be able to update it directly in your browser. To do so, you need to open the official website and download it from there.
