The Steam gaming platform is an all-in-one game store and player launcher available for different platforms. Most Steam users know that they can create desktop shortcuts for the games they have installed in Steam to launch games directly without having to open Steam first.

Here are the Steps to Create Desktop Shortcuts for Steam Games

Unlike normal shortcuts, when creating the Steam game desktop shortcut, you must use the Steam game URI with a specific game ID. In case you don’t know it, Steam automatically gives you a unique ID for each game installed via Steam. Creating a desktop shortcut with the Steam URI ensures that the game is launched via Steam and not directly. Although it sounds complicated, it’s pretty easy to do. Just follow the steps as they are and you’ll be done in no time.

  • If it is not already open, open Steam by searching for it in the Start menu. Once you have opened it, go to the library → Home option.
  • In the left panel you will see all your games. Right click on the game of your choice and select the option “Manage →, add desktop shortcut”.

You can manually create shortcuts for an application that starts the program when you click it, or shortcuts that take you to a specific folder.
