If you received an error code 0x80244022 in the middle of a Windows update, do not panic. Many users also had these headaches. This error means that your Windows 10 installation folder is not finished and/or is corrupted. Well, how do we fix it?
This error may occur if the Windows Update service encounters errors when connecting to the Microsoft Update website, downloading, installing updates, etc. It is not always clear why this error occurs, so it is recommended to perform a system diagnosis to correct the cause of the problem.
If you see the error 0x80244022 in Windows Update or in the Windows Update log, it is a network error.
If you are using the WSUS, this could be an indication that the IIS AppPool in which your WSUS operates has been stopped and must be started:
- Start the IIS manager
- Expand the areas of application of POOLS.
- When WSUSPOOL is stopped, right-click on it and select START.
Microsoft points out that when the Windows Update error 80244022 is displayed during the update search, an unusually high number of updates may be requested from Windows Update servers. Microsoft recommends that you wait a few minutes, then check for updates again.
Windows Update Troubleshooting 0x80244022:
Use System Troubleshooter
Go to the official Windows support page and download the Windows Update Troubleshooter for the corresponding version of your operating system.
Go to the location where you saved the troubleshooting and start the wu.diagcab file.
Monitor the process closely and troubleshoot programs as you perform the troubleshooting steps.
Make sure that the system date and time are correct.
Sometimes this update error code can occur due to one hour and incorrect system data. A system with an incorrect date and time is the main cause of Windows update errors. So try to update your system after setting the wrong date.
Make sure that the date and time on your computer are correct. To do that:
- Simultaneously press the Windows image + R keys to open the command box.
- Enter the command field for the operation: timedate.cpl and press Enter.
- Tap Change Date and Time to specify the current date, time and year on your computer.
- When you are finished with the date and time, press Change Time Zone and make sure you have the correct time zone for your location.
Resetting Windows update components
If all the solutions we mentioned did not work, the best thing to do is to try to completely reset the Windows Update components and then perform an update. This solution works for many different Windows update errors in addition to this one and people have claimed that it has worked for them in relation to this particular error message.
Search for “Command prompt”, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
Use the following commands to stop the BITS service, the cryptographic service and the Windows Update service. After each order, click on Enter and wait until the task is completed.
network stop bits
net stop wuauserv
net stop appidsvc
net stop cryptsvc cryptsvc
Use the command below to delete sqmgr*.dat files.
del “%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat”
Rename the folder in Software Distribution, which can help you restart the entire upgrade process. You can do this by copying or typing the following commands one after the other.
ren %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak
ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak
