The message “System error 53 has occurred. The network path has not been found” is a common native internal error message of the Microsoft Windows operating system. This problem occurred mainly with older operating systems. One of the reasons for this error is when some of your sharing of files and folders are disabled so that the connection is not established. Another reason is if your security software prevents the connection because it considers it harmful.
In some cases, the error occurs when there are connection problems. If two computers are not properly connected, or if there are problems with the network, the error occurs. The system error also occurs if you have executed an incorrect folder sharing command and if background applications interrupt the connection process.
To solve the System error 53 problem, here are some methods you can use to fix it:
Check Windows Update and Microsoft Update
- Press the Windows key and I key together to open the settings. Then select Update and Security to continue.
- In the pop-up window, select Windows Update and click Check for Updates to continue.

- In the search area of the taskbar, type Command prompt or hold down the button (or right-click).
- Select Run as administrator and click Yes.
- At the command prompt, execute the following commands in the order indicated, then check if they solve your connection problem:
Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
Check in Safe Mode
- Restart the computer and immediately press the F8 key.
- Wait until the Boot Options screen appears and select the Advanced Boot Options option.
- Select “Safe Mode with Network” and wait for the computer to start.
- Check if the problem is in this mode.
- If this is not the case, it means that a background application is the cause of the problem all the time. Start disabling applications one at a time and notice which one solves the problem. Reinstall this application or leave it disabled.
Allow File Sharing
- Click on Start, then on Computer.
- In the Computer window, locate the folder that contains the folder you want to share.
- Right-click the folder you want to share, then click Share. The File Sharing window appears.
- If password-protected sharing is enabled, in the File Sharing window, select the users who can access the shared folder and its permission level. To allow all users, select All from the list of users. By default, the authorization level for a selected user is Reader. Users cannot edit files in the share or create new files. To allow a user to edit files or folders, or create new files or folders, select Share Owner as the authorization level.
- When you are finished, click Share and then click Done.
