Do you know which version of Windows you have? Although you generally do not need to know the exact version number for each installed version of Windows, general information about the version of the operating system you are using is very important.
Everyone should know three things about the installed version of Windows: the main version of Windows, like 10, 8, 7, etc.; the edition of this version of Windows, like Pro, Ultimate, etc.; and whether this version of Windows is 64-bit or 32-bit.
If you don’t know which version of Windows you have, you won’t know which software to install, which device driver to update – you may not even know which instructions to follow for help!
So, which version of Windows do I have?
The Old Way to School – Checking the properties of the file explorer
As in the past with Windows 7 and earlier versions, you can right-click on this PC/My computer and go to Properties. Details such as Windows version and edition, product ID are displayed here. It also indicates the capacity of your RAM, the model of your processor and whether you are using a 64-bit processor or not. There is not a PC today that only uses a 64-bit processor if you have one from your grandfather’s time.
Find your edition, build number, and more with the Settings application.
The new Settings application also provides construction, editing and version information in a user-friendly format. Press Windows+I to open Settings. In the Settings window, go to System > About. Scroll down a little and you will see the information you are looking for.
Navigate to System > About and scroll down. The “Version” and “Build” numbers can be found here.
To know the exact version of Windows and OS Build
In general, you do not need to know the exact version of the Windows operating system on your PC. But if you need to know, you can press the Windows logo button and type R Winver at the same time and a window will open with the exact version of Windows and OS Build.
Discover the Windows version with the Winver command
There is also another way to determine which version of Windows you are using by using the command prompt and the winver command. This method opens the winver application to display detailed information about your current Windows operating system.
To use the winver command to get information about your Windows operating system, open the command prompt, then type the following:
And press Enter. A “About Windows” window will appear telling you which version of Winow you are using.
With the Winver command, you can retrieve the type of Windows operating system you are using, the edition and the build number. However, this command does not help you determine the architecture information – Windows 32-bit or 64-bit.
Windows 10 is available in different versions. Don’t know which version of Windows is installed on your computer? Windows doesn’t really shout it, but a little research will force him to reveal this information.
