Usually, we are very familiar with Windows Photo Viewer, which allows you to view and print image files in different ways, attach images to an email message, etc. But with the latest version of Windows 10, Microsoft has replaced the Windows Photo Viewer software with a photo application to make the Photos application more popular simply because it fits the design culture of Windows 10. This means that Windows Photo Viewer is no longer listed under Open With and only.tiff files are associated in standard programs. If you perform a new search, use Windows Photo Viewer as the default application under Windows, here are the steps to restore Windows Photo Viewer under Windows 10.

Why Users Prefer Windows Photo Viewer

We would like to explain why most people still don’t have Windows Photo Viewer? The good old Photo Viewer has silent and loyal fans singing his glory. This part of the article discusses the advantages of the Windows photo viewer.

Here’s why they want to restore Windows Photo Viewer:

  • Windows Photo Viewer has a better user interface, so you can see everything at the bottom of the screen. It speeds up access, while the user interface of Windows 10 Photos is sometimes hidden. Unless you move your mouse over the entire screen to move from one photo to another.
  • Use the scroll wheel to zoom in faster and more accurately.
  • There is no slide effect between images, nor is there a splash/delay screen when the application starts. It allows faster actions without unnecessary improvements.
  • You can move the mouse forward or backward to move to the next or previous photo.
  • You can see the name of the photo in Windows Photos Viewer.
  • Right-click to access the Copy, Open With, Properties, etc. option for your photos on the Windows computer.
  • You can pause to display a single image in full screen mode.
  • You can view the image in its original size without scaling it by using the UI button.
  • There is a solid user interface in the image that does not hide it, but serves as a pleasant setting.
  • You can delete an image without confirming it here.

Restoring Windows Photo Viewer to Windows 10

Windows Photo Viewer must be available on devices that have been upgraded from previous versions of Windows to Windows 10.

To find out if this is really the case, follow these steps:

  1. Right-click on an image on the Windows 10 machine and choose Open with > Select another application.
  2. Select Other applications if the Windows Photo Viewer is not listed.
  3. Scroll down to see if the program is listed. When you see it, Windows Photo Viewer is installed and ready to use.

If you do not see the program in it, you will need to make some changes to the Windows registry to restore it. You can make Windows Photo Viewer the default viewer for photos, but you cannot use the Settings application for this. Microsoft prevents desktop programs from becoming the default programs (programs that you can run on your local system), and offers only a few.

Can’t import the REG file?

If you get this error when you run the REG file, no problem. Most of the parameters would have been written correctly. It is possible that the file remained blocked in the TIF/TIFF mapping settings when writing, because the TIF/TIFF mapping already exists after the upgrade to Windows 10. You can ignore the error message and continue.
