There have been cases where Outlook has crashed or closed unexpectedly. When such an incident occurs, the service attempts to reopen items from a previous session. Many people do not like this default behavior. If you are one of them, here’s how you can easily prevent Outlook from reopening email after a crash.
In the event of an unexpected error or a forced closure of the Outlook application by the user, the service will attempt to use a command prompt to remind the user to reopen items from the previous session:
“Outlook closed while you had items open. Reopen those items from your last session.”
Reviewing Potential Problems Caused by Add-ins
- Exit prospects.
- Open an Execute dialog box. Use one of the following procedures, depending on your version of Windows:
- If you are using Windows 10, Windows 8.1, or Windows 8, press the Windows logo key + R.
- If you’re using Windows 7, click Start, type Run in the search box, then click Run.
- Type Outlook /safe, then click OK.
- When the problem is resolved, on the File menu, click Options, and then click Add-Ins.
- Select COM Add-ins, then click Go.
- Clear all checkboxes in the list and then click OK.
- Restart Outlook. If the problem does not occur, start adding add-ins one by one until the problem occurs.
To Prevent Outlook from Opening Email Messages Again After a Crash
Some people open several e-mails in separate windows, just to remember which ones they need to reply to later. This is a good thing, unless your laptop battery is flat or the system just crashes.
Whether Outlook crashes or you close it, you can now quickly restart items when you reopen the application.
Microsoft indicates that this feature is enabled by default, and you should probably leave it enabled if you only use Outlook on your personal computer.
However, if you use Outlook on other computers just to check your e-mail, it is advisable to disable it, at least temporarily.
To do this, follow these steps:
- Start the Outlook application.
- Go to the folder.
- Select the options.
- Navigate to the startup options.
- Select Never restore previous items.
Outlook is used by many users for business and commercial purposes. When users try to open Outlook e-mail messages, they may get stuck or blocked.
