KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED The error check has the value 0x0000001E. For the layman, this means that a program in kernel mode has generated an exception that the error handler has not caught. It often results from the display of a blue screen while a user tries to install a program or one of the Windows drivers that has just been loaded at startup or shutdown. An incorrectly configured device driver can also cause this type of error. There is not a single source that can be traced back to the main cause of this error. It is therefore difficult to locate or resolve this problem. However, if you follow when and where your STOP error occurs, you can help troubleshoot it.
The Windows kernel has detected an invalid or unknown processor control, usually due to invalid memory and access violations due to hardware incompatibility, defective device drivers, or defective system services. The error message often identifies the offending driver or device. If the error occurred immediately after installing a driver or service, try disabling or deleting the new add-on.
Unmanaged KMode exception, CLASSPNP.SYS failed
The screen above shows that the file CLASSPNP.SYS failed. This is a DLL SCSI Class System DLL driver file and the location of this file is C:WindowsSystem32driversclasspnp.sys.
1] SCSI class System Dll Microsoft Windows OS file
Most SYS files allow internal PC hardware or connected hardware, such as a printer, to communicate with third-party software (e.g. web browser, word processor, MSDN Development Platform U.S.) and operating system (e.g. Windows).
Other SYS files are critical system files called kernel device drivers that are used to power the Windows operating system. Files like CONFIG.SYS contain configuration parameters and determine which device drivers should be loaded by the operating system. Without driver files such as CLASSPNP.SYS, you would not be able to perform simple tasks such as printing a document. Any type of damage to this file can cause errors, for example in the form of KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_NOT_HANDLED. It is therefore advisable to check if the CLASSPNP.SYS file has not been damaged on your PC.
Run System File Checker or sfc.exe to search for and recover corrupted Windows system files.
2] Windows 10 Blue Screen Troubleshooter
Opens the Blue Screen Troubleshooter via Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshooting and runs it to see if it helps.
3] Visit the convenience store website
Visit the Microsoft website to run the blue screen convenience store online. You will see a simple wizard that will guide you through the blue screens troubleshooting process.
You are asked first – When did you receive the error from the blue screen?
- When upgrading to Windows 10
- After installing an update
- While using my PC.
Choose your options how and when they will be requested, and we hope you will get the right instructions on what to do.
4] Update device driver
Installing the wrong driver or configuring an incompatible version of the correct driver may cause the error. It is therefore important to check and install the correct version of the required driver. For more information, see our article – Uninstalling, Deactivating, Reverting, Updating Device Drivers.
