This error is displayed if some required information is missing or damaged in the boot configuration file or BCD file. The corresponding error codes can be 0xc0000034 or 0x0000098.

The error generally suggests that you need to use recovery tools on your installation media such as DVD or USB to repair and restore your Windows installation.

To correct these errors, disconnect all external devices, then insert your installation media or connect your USB to your laptop, restart your computer, boot from the media and select Repair your computer. You can download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and use it to burn a bootable DVD or USB.

Then select option Advanced Options.

Under Advanced Start Options, see:

  • System restore
  • System image recovery
  • Commissioning repair
  • Command prompt :
  • Commissioning parameters
  • Return to previous construction.

Select Command Prompt and use it to rebuild your MBR with the built-in Bootrec tool (16). You must execute the following commands one after the other in the CMD window :

0xc0000034 /RebuildBcd

0xc0000034 /

Restart your computer and see if any of these suggestions helped you solve the problem.

You can also use EasyBCD or Dual-Boot Repair to repair your BCD file. You can also use it to repair the MBR.
